In small business we are always looking for ways to grow our business, get more customers, make more money etc. but how do you do it. You need to have actionable steps that you can take and goals that you can achieve.

The last one is very important but it must never be at the sacrifice of actually doing business. It is one of the reasons that my business advisory sessions never expire; you use them as you can.

As the owner or entrepreneur, it is your MAIN task to SELL. Now you may not feel like you are a sales person – too bad. Once you decided to be an entrepreneur or self-employed you are now in sales.
You can have the fanciest website, best products and services but if no one buys from you – you are not in business. Sales and selling well is key to the success of any business long term.
Remember that no one knows your business or has the passion for it like you so you have to sell it.
Don’t ever try to be everything to everyone, know your ideal clients and target to them. Many business owners make the very simple mistake of saying “Well everyone could use what I have on offer” this is not realistic!
Who are your ideal clients or who would you like them to be?
Create a clear persona of this person or business and focus on targeting them.
Products and Services
Stick with your original idea before you try to add more and more. Don’t get distracted and think up new ideas without perfecting your original plan.
Many business owners try to add products and services with the thought that these new things will be the magical fix. There is no magical fix – selling your focus is the magic that your ideal clients need.
When you are going to add to your products and services it should be at the request of your ideal clients and what they want and or need.
- What are you doing to generate interest in what you have on offer?
- How can people see you, find you and ultimately do business with you?
- What is the reason that people will choose you?
- How are you unique and ensuring people find out about this uniqueness?
